Reclaiming precious metals with a liquid filter
An application which is becoming ever more popular is the reclamation of precious metals with the use of our liquid filters. This is often from plating processes, but also can be from machining and other production methods where small particles of precious metals are held in a liquid suspension.
If the metals to be recovered are from a plating or coating process then it is quite likely that the metals will be in a very aggressive liquid. The next problem is to remove the very fine particles from the liquid and then to recover them.
What filters can I use?
Our coalescing filter elements and particulate filter elements are ideal for this kind of process because they do not have any end caps or supports or any extra materials apart from the borosilicate glass microfibres. So to remove the precious metals from the filter it’s a simple case of heating the element until the glass and the precious metals melt and separate. This type of process can be employed for the extraction and testing of all manner of materials as long as the components to be separated are not destroyed by the temperature required to melt the borosilicate glass microfibers.
Can I use the same filter for plating solutions?
For the reclaiming of precious metals from plating solutions we recommended using a coalescing filter element instead of a particulate filter element but still flow it from outside to inside, this greatly increases the life due to the large particles being gathered. Also to withstand the aggressive solution we design and manufacture polypropylene end of line housings, with combined support cores, making the installation and removal of the elements far easier.
